Understanding Roast Profiles
From Light to Dark: How roasting changes the flavor of your cup.
The Roaster's Craft
Roasting is where the potential of the green coffee bean is unlocked. By applying heat, we trigger chemical reactions that transform the bean's flavor, aroma, and color. At First Sip, we roast to order to ensure you receive the freshest beans possible.
Light Roasts
Light roasts are "origin-forward." They are roasted for a shorter time to preserve the bean's natural characteristics. Expect higher acidity, tea-like bodies, and fruity or floral notes. They are perfect for those who want to taste the specific terroir of the farm.
Medium Roasts
Medium roasts offer a balance between the bean's natural flavor and the sweetness developed during roasting. They are typically chocolatey and slightly caramelly with a more rounded acidity. They are highly versatile and work well for both black coffee and milk-based drinks.
Dark Roasts
Dark roasts are bold and bittersweet. The roasting process takes over, resulting in lower acidity, a heavy body, and notes of dark chocolate or toasted nuts. If you like a traditional, "strong" cup of coffee, dark roasts are for you.
Each First Sip bag is clearly labeled with its roast level, helping you choose the profile that best matches your palate.
